Coming home from a long trip makes me appreciate Vienna even more. I’m always busy exploring new places, totally forgetting about this beautiful city that I call home. Next to the shopping street Mariahilferstraße lies the popular 7th district, also known as Neubau. It is one of Vienna’s smallest districts, bordering the 1st, 8th, 6th, 15th and 16th districts. What attracts most people are the (vegan friendly) restaurants, vintage cafés, typical Viennese bars and second-hand shops. Neubau is THE place to be.
I’ve teamed up with neubau eyewear to show you around this beautiful neighborhood. The glasses I’m wearing are the “Carla” glasses. It’s a cat eye shape, made of naturalPX. “naturalPX is a highly developed, eco-friendly material used to manufacture our polymer eyeglass frames. naturalPX is made from organically sourced and renewable primary products, as 65% of it is based on oil extracted from the seeds of castor oil plants.” – neubau eyewear.
There is a neubau eyewear pop up store at Upper’s & Downers until August 2018 – check it out!
Food – Where to eat
The seventh district is full of delicious restaurants. I feel like there’s something going on in every single street, because most restaurants have outdoor sitting areas in the warmer months (best time to visit vienna). I’m a big foodie and love discovering new restaurants. I have yet to finish exploring Neubau, but I honestly think it’s a never-ending process. There are so many amazing places! Some of my favorites are listed below!
For yummy deserts, check out the cakes at Café 7Stern or try the ice cream sandwiches at Veganista!

Drinks & Coffee – Where to drink in Neubau
No place is better for “Coffee Shopping” than the 7th District! If you’re looking for a place that allows laptops, has wifi and serves delicious drinks and food, you should hit up Burggasse 24. I love their fresh ginger and lemon tea + their vintage interior is really nice! Hornig is the total opposite, but still worth a visit. Its clean interior is perfect for instagram photos and the waiters are really nice. I had a matcha latte with soy milk there, which was delicious! Other great coffee shops are Das Möbel, Kaffeemik and Café Espresso.
If you fancy a drink, stop by the 25 Hours Hotel!
Shops – Where to shop in Neubau
The seventh district is the perfect place for thrift shopping. At Uppers & Downers, you can not only find a curated selection of beautiful second-hand pieces, there’s also a little neubau eyewear pop-up shop in the back of the store (until August)! Definitely worth a visit is also Burggasse24, a coffee shop and second-hand store in one. It’s a beautiful and spacious location. Another must-visit is Bootik54.
For some fair fashion pieces, check out Webandits and if you’re looking for a gift or want to splurge on some great interior pieces, visit Die Sellerie, Sous-Bois, Volta or the vintage maps shop Irenaeus Kraus.
Galleries & Museums in Neubau
I feel like I’ve mentioned a bunch of restaurants and cafés so far. You could indeed spend all day eating at different restaurants in the seventh district, but that might get a bit boring. Visit the photography museum “Westlicht Galerie” or spend your afternoon exploring the “museum of modern art” Mumok for some cultural activities.
